Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Cake Donuts
One family’s Christmas morning tradition is making old-fashioned cake donuts from Grandma’s simple recipe; start your own tradition today.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, whip the eggs until they are creamy in color.
Add sugar gradually and blend thoroughly.
Add vanilla extract and buttermilk and combine.
Blend in butter.
In a different bowl, combine the salt, nutmeg, baking soda, and flour.
After thoroughly blending the first half of the mixture with the sugar mixture, add the second half.
Give the batter 20 minutes to rest.
To 375 degrees F, heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan (190 degrees C).
As soon as the dough is turned out onto a floured surface, knead it just enough to bring it together.
Dough is cut into donut shapes after being rolled out with a rolling pin until it is 3/8-inch thick.
