Homemade Banana Pudding Pie
A homemade stovetop pudding is poured over a vanilla wafer crust and sliced bananas, topped with meringue, and baked. This recipe is old and authentic!
Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
Vanilla wafer crumbs and banana slices are layered in the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate.
Making Pudding Combine flour and 1 1/2 cups sugar in a medium saucepan.
Mix thoroughly before adding half the milk.
Whisk sugar mixture while beating egg yolks.
Butter or margarine and the remaining milk are added.
Stirring frequently, place the mixture over low heat and cook until thickened.
Add vanilla extract after removing from the heat.
While the pudding is still hot, spread half of it over the vanilla wafer and banana layer.
On top of the pudding layer, layer alternately vanilla wafers and banana slices.
Over the second wafer and banana layer, add the remaining pudding.
