Vasilopita
A sweet Greek New Year’s bread is called vasilopita. The recipient of the coin concealed inside is regarded as particularly fortunate for the year.

Mix 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup yeast, and 1/2 cup flour in a small bowl.

For about 45 minutes, with the sponge covered and in a warm environment, let it rise until nearly doubled in size.

Add 6 cups of flour to a big bowl.

The sponge, salt, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, 3/4 cup melted butter, 3 eggs, and 2 cups milk should all be added to the center after creating a well.

Make a stiff dough by thoroughly combining.

Put the dough in a springform pan that has been greased.

In a warm location, cover the dough with melted butter, let it rise for 60 to 90 minutes or until it has doubled in size.

Set oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees C).

To make an egg wash, beat an egg with 1 tablespoon water.
